Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts Student Group Experiences

Group Tours of Lincoln Center
This is a great way to introduce young people to the world of performing arts. Explore the theaters of Lincoln Center; enjoy stories of great artists, great builders and great institutions with a guided tour, (sometimes catching a glimpse of a rehearsal in progress). Tour features the New York State Theater, Avery Fisher Hall, the Metropolitan Opera House, or the Vivian Beaumont Theater. Allow 1 hour.
Customized Meet the Artist Program
Lincoln Center’s unique, customized Meet-the-Artist program, an extraordinary opportunity for students to enjoy a private performance by a professional singer, actor, dancer or mime and engage in a lively discussion afterwards. Artists from Broadway and the opera are a few favorites, but artists from all styles and genres are available. The Meet-the-Artist program is often paired with the tour. Allow 2 hours
Master Class
A 90 minute session provides student ensembles with expert instruction by an outstanding chorus master, maestro, drama coach, or dance captain. Talented and engaging artists enjoy sharing their unique knowledge and experience with groups. Each event is custom-designed based on the group’s interests and is often offered in combination with a guided tour. Allow 2 ½ hours.

Meet the Musician

Seminars
Do you ever wonder how a choreographer creates a ballet or about the methods composers use to write music for dance? Do you like to hear musicians speak about performance or hear dancers talk about and demonstrate how they approach a role? Join a 90 minute seminar, limited dates.
The Metropolitan Museum of Art

Take the Highlights Tour, a popular introduction to the Museum’s collection, or customize your own tour to suite the interests of your group – such as The Art of Dress; the Art of the Game; or Food in Art. Whatever focus you choose for your tour, the Met’s experienced guides will engage the group in a lively and memorable discussion.
Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade
Thanksgiving is a wonderful time to visit NYC! Join as more than 2.5 million people line the streets to watch the balloons, floats and falloons, celebrities, bands,
and clown crews in the most spectacular holiday celebration in the world. The spirit of that small band of 1924 Macy’s employees lives on today with the participation if more than 4000 volunteers on the famous 2 1/2 mile march through Manhattan’s streets. And don't forget to catch the action on Thanksgiving Eve as thousands watch the giant balloons get filled with helium.
Every year the best of marching bands, dance teams and performance groups participate in this American holiday tradition. Bands for 2008 and 2009 have already been selected, applications are currently being accepted for 2010. Applications are available for download at the official parade website: http://www.macys.com/campaign/parade/parade.jsp.
